Googles John Mueller was asked on Twitter if the sitemap ping tool still works or not. John said that he is “not familiar with any modifications there, and the URL seems to be responding to get requests as typical.” In fact, the official paperwork still has this as an option. The docs say “Use the ping tool. Send out a GET request in your internet browser or the command line to this address, specifying the full URL of the sitemap. Make certain that the sitemap file is accessible.”The format to ping Google is https://www.google.com/ping?sitemap=FULL_URL_OF_SITEMAPOf course, simply because you ping Google with brand-new URLs, it does not imply Google will index all of the pages and reveal all the pages in Google Search. John included on Twitter “a sitemap ping does not ensure crawling.”Im not knowledgeable about any modifications there, and the URL appears to be reacting to get requests as normal. A sitemap ping does not ensure crawling though.– & #x 1f9c0; John & #x 1f9c0; (@JohnMu) September 12, 2021 Forum discussion at Twitter.
